The Recreation Therapist Senior position will provide advanced therapeutic recreation services for forensic patients of the Minnesota Security Hospital: assessing leisure/recreational needs, creating and facilitating treatment interventions, organizing and preparing recreation participation opportunities, providing appropriate and timely documentation and evaluating outcomes for dangerous, difficult and complex treatment cases. Primary Responsibilities Include: -Facilitation of Therapeutic Recreation treatment and leisure education programs. -Establishment of Recreational Therapy curriculum and group descriptions based on programmatic needs. -Participate in multidisciplinary treatment planning process including quarterly reviews and team meetings by way of articulating clinical impressions, a rationale and recommendations for services. -Manage resources to accomplish prioritized tasks in preparation for special events. -Creates and facilitates community reintegration groups based on the outcome of assessment tools and treatment plan process recommendations. -Maintains constructive communication and cooperative working relationships with others. Exhibits positive personal conduct by extending kindness, helpfulness, respect, and hospitality to patients, other staff, visitors, and the public. -Ensure staff using equipment, resources and facility areas for patient programs are adequately trained -Document clearly and accurately all actions taken to implement security procedures. -Ability to anticipate, keep pace with and proactively address people’s evolving needs within a changing service delivery environment; must demonstrate an open mind and flexibility with how work is performed; and must suggest, embrace and implement approved changes. -Exibit functional and technical knowledge and skills to work with the technology/equipment needed to perform his/her job duties.
Four years of experience conducting recreation therapy programs, facilitating recreation activities in a healthcare or education setting or?working in a mental health, substance use disorder, and/or sex offender specific treatment setting in a direct care position Bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Therapeutic Recreation, Park/Recreation & Leisure, Physical Education, Social Work, or Psychology may substitute for 1 year of experience. OR Current certification with the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation

Those crossing Appointing Authorities may be required to successfully complete a physical assessment form, provide education documentation (high school diploma, GED, college transcript, or college degree) and provide documented proof of freedom from tuberculosis completed within the last year.
